My Upcoming Reads!

For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in the palace and compete for the heart of the gorgeous Prince Maxon.

But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.

Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself- and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagine.

I plan to read this soon.  The main reason I would like to read it is that it sounds really interesting, but also it has a very lovely cover (isn't it just beautiful?!!).  Does anyone have any thoughts on this book? What did they like about it? What didn't they like about it? No spoilers please, since I haven't yet read the book! :)

An independent-minded young maid tells the story of social-climber Peggy Shippen and how she influenced Benedict Arnold’s betrayal of the Patriot forces. Revolutionary Philadelphia is brought to life as Becca seeks to find her "missing pieces” while exploring the complicated issues of the war between the impoverished independence men and the decadent British Tories.

I also plan to read this soon! The other day I was searching for a good historical fiction book and the woman who worked at the bookstore recommended it to me! Does anyone have anything that I should know before I read this book? What did you guys like or not like about it? Again, no spoilers! Thank you:)

It's late summer 1793, and the streets of Philadelphia are abuzz with mosquitoes and rumors of fever. Down near the docks, many have taken ill, and the fatalities are mounting. Now they include Polly, the serving girl at the Cook Coffeehouse. But fourteen-year-old Mattie Cook doesn't get a moment to mourn the passing of her childhood playmate. New customers have overrun her family's coffee shop, located far from the mosquito-infested river, and Mattie's concerns of fever are all but overshadowed by dreams of growing her family's small business into a thriving enterprise. But when the fever begins to strike closer to home, Mattie's struggle to build a new life must give way to a new fight-the fight to stay alive

I think I started this book a long itme ago but never really finished it.  I plan to read it soon, because it was on the list for 7th grade summer reading at school.  The list only required me to read 2 of the 4 books listed, and I already read 2, but I thought I'd give this one a second chance.  Thoughts? No spoilers!!!!

I actually started this book already but I'm not that far and would love to hear what other people think!

Why be the sheep, when you can be the wolf?

Seventeen-year-old Ismae escapes from the brutality of an arranged marriage into the sanctuary of the convent of St. Mortain, where the sisters still serve the gods of old. Here she learns that the god of Death Himself has blessed her with dangerous gifts—and a violent destiny. If she chooses to stay at the convent, she will be trained as an assassin and serve as a handmaiden to Death. To claim her new life, she must destroy the lives of others.

Ismae’s most important assignment takes her straight into the high court of Brittany—where she finds herself woefully under prepared—not only for the deadly games of intrigue and treason, but for the impossible choices she must make. For how can she deliver Death’s vengeance upon a target who, against her will, has stolen her heart?

I'm not like out of my mind impressed so far (I'm only like 60 pages in!) but I wanted to know what other people thought! No spoilers!

  1. Was not a fan of The Selection but it also wasn't my type of book. Maybe you'll like it more than I did.

  2. I saw your review on Goodreads, but I'm such a sucker for pretty covers that I just can't resist it! (I just posted a whole thing on pretty covers lol) It sounds pretty interesting but I'm not sure.

  3. Hey I am too! That's why I picked this book up in the first place. The cover was amazing but the inside...not so much.
